Calypso

A beautiful nymph in Greek mythology who lived on the island of Ogygia.

Calypso held Odysseus captive in what became known as Calypso's Grotto. She held him against his will to make him her immortal husband. " Black Lava Rock " depicts Calypso Grotto in the large central stone and sequenced evenly on the middle strand in smaller stones. Odysseus enchanted at first by the sweet singing of Calypso soon becomes disenchanted and longs for his wife Penelope. Calypso realizes this and sends him back to her. Odysseus sets out on his journey across the sea and back to Ithaca to his wife. Calypso mourns his leaving and she sits on the jutted lava rocks watching him board his raft with the wine, cheese and fishes that she had packed for him for his journey. The four teardrop shaped crackle beads represent her tears and the two silver fishes that nestle on the collar bone represent the dried fishes she packed for his long journey.
There are three Black Spinal Beads known as THE GREAT IMPOSTER in the world of  gemstones. This gemstone is associated with lovers deposing of their ego's to allow for deeper devotion. It is also the said stone to ease sadness between lovers. The necklace is symmetrically balanced with smokey gray faceted glass beads and mother of pearls shell chips. Intermingled are silver antiqued brass bead caps and  other silver brass components. The necklace has silver chain that is adjustable for the wearer.

Angela designed this beautiful necklace in July of 2016 before the news of the Dakota pipeline access was known to us. We are all one decision away from a different scenario, aren't we. Unmistakable our human decisions impact future generations for the good and sadly also for the bad. We listen to all the reasons, and we are advised to all benefits, and consequences,  however sometimes the decisions made comes down to two words. Greed and Need. Overcoming unimaginable resistance and perseverances  is how we show passion. We didn't give up! We kept at it. That attitude is how change is made.

As in design, Angela and I have overcome little obstacles, very small challenges, in comparison to the worlds struggle. However as Rumi says God speaks to us through our loves, and our powerful inner feelings. When we have those powerful emotions it is a rising and a authenticity to our true calling. Angela and I have found our true calling Design and through our love of design we will recognize our duties and our path.

Dakota, has the influence of the Poarch Creek Indians. The only Indian tribe Angela and I knew. As young teen girls my parents would attend the Fancy Dance powwow in Atmore Alabama. We loved the vivid and intense color of dress the Indians wore. Our memories are transformed into the necklace Dakota's colorful brilliance and placement of beads and stones. Scattered throughout the design are glass beads that are faceted cut that cast out glimmer and subtle sparkle. Three large faux Turquoise focal beads secure the placement of the primary structure and the brass hardware unites all in the design. Brass chain allows wearer to adjust length. Dakota is one of our favorite pieces.

Aurora

My maternal Grandfather was a Merchant Marine for 35 years. As Chief Engineer and second only to the Captain my Grandfather witness and took part in many, many, adventures. He was particularly good at articulating these adventures into the most awesome stories EVER!

One story that Angela and I loved and we begged him to tell us over and over was the story of the infamous Lady Pirate Aurora Borealis. Yes, yes we known now that it is a great phenomenon in the Northern skies. However the stories impact on two little girls believed Aurora Borealis to be the wild savaged, pirate, princess and the raider of ships that carried a cache of jewels. Aurora was a strong, fearless dark haired beauty. She wielded a long razor sharp machete and the handle of the machete was made from the skull bone of a gigantic crocodile that Aurora had killed. When the steel blade of her machete hit the skull of the crocodile the sparks flew high into the sky and still remain there glowing in the sky. The ivory beads represent that crocodile skull. Around her neck she wore a trophy of the jewels that she stole from the ship " The Black Jelly Bean " The stolen stones were emeralds, sapphires, rubies and golden topaz that are represented in the glass jewel tone beads. Four turquoise skulls are in keeping with the story that the Rose of the four great winds of the North, South, East and West of long long ago whispered her name Aurora. The two small skulls symbolize the two spider monkeys Bess and Boot that Aurora loved. Their long arms could snatched up little jewels that fell in places she couldn't reach. Our Grandfather was the best and we miss him! Brass component fill out the rest of the necklace. Brass chain is adjustable allows wearer to fit it comfortably.

Liberty

Inspired by our patriotism Liberty was design with patriotic feeling. The majestic, regal and royal quality of the necklace mirrors the love we have for our United States of America. For 40 years I sang publicly.  I have sung " The Star Spangled Banner " at the beginning of many, many sporting events. If I were to be very honest when I was younger, I don't think the solemnity of those words so beautifully written were totally understood by me.

Like the "Declaration of Independence" the words don't resonate or magnify their meaning until you see through the eyes of adversity, adventures, and or through the eyes of someone who isn't an American.  Our Constitution, guarantees the freedom to speak openly, the freedom to express ourselves without fear, to build our nation by those very freedoms that make our souls grow. To allow such a freedom as to the simple extraordinary pleasure just to speak out loud our dreams is as scared as the realization that we are one body, socially connected, constructed and corresponding in our diversity. As I have grown older I also grow in wisdom of the profoundness that our country all 50 sovereign states are so unique and remarkably beautiful in cultures and communities. I have been to each of the continental states and Hawaii leaving only Alaska to be discovered. And I will get there! Ah yes, let freedom ring!

Liberty has the sparkle and spangle. Moonlight white Pearls, Topaz Blue and Crimson Garnet glass beads build the three strand necklace. Sparkling Ruby like fire rondelle's

flicker throughout the design as does the ice blue teardrop cut glass. Matte Silver components finishing and silver adjustable chain gives the wearer a choice of different lengths.

As individuals there is little and much we can do. Friendships go the same way. Friends enter our lives at the perfect interval. Some friends stay for the duration and some come in and out.  However long they are all important in our life. When Angela and I design we design with love, emotions and remembrance. In the coming months we have design several necklaces in the remembrance of dear loving friends. We love people with wide open hearts. They step forward to help. They accept, your differences. They are optimistic about your future and they remind you that you will succeed.  I am sure we all have such a friend. I am lucky to have such a friend. I would not be who I am without her.
Francine's three strands are united in symmetrical balance with beads in Yellow Turquoise, Red Agate, Brown Jasper, Olive Jade and finished out with glitter glass.
Bright Silver Brass components and adjustable chain.

So aptly named for The Empress Theodora who reigned in The Byzantine Empire and was one of the most influential and powerful of the Byzantine Empresses's.  She is credited with influencing reform regarding property ownership to woman as well as the rights to woman and children.
The necklace structure begins with the six large yellow turquoise stones that highlights the design. There are 8 smaller round yellow turquoise beads that echo symmetry throughout the necklace. This Yellow Turquoise stone is marbled green in color and is said to bring wisdom and enhance creativity. Carnelian nuggets combined all three strands and one Crackle Agate balances the middle strand. Two marbled caramel colored barreled beads flank the sides of the collarbone strand keeping the position close to the neck ( The brass chain supports can be adjusted for whatever length the wearer would like). Mingled end to end are different colors of cut glass beads, and Czech faceted beads that keep the sparkle going. Brass bead components with antique copper bead caps add to the antiquity of the look.

Katherina

Love is energy, transforming into actions and impulses. Before we know it we have the makings of a powerful contribution to the world around us. Our nature to continually look for ourself in the community and in that searching for ourselves we create our environment. Katherina Claudel was a Ballerina. She lived on the third floor of a very large apartment building. We lived across the street and on the third floor too in another very large apartment building. The year was 1968. In Nuremberg Germany. I was almost ten and Angela was almost 9. We wanted to be Ballerinas and had beautiful chenille bedspreads that had Ballerinas all over them. We love the stranger Katherina Claudel the Ballerina. The only way we knew her name was when she danced in a program in our local Theatre of Arts.  A flyer was stuffed in the post box and there she was dressed in her tutu. Mama told us it was called a tutu. We loved to say the word tutu. We still laugh cause we just thought that was the funniest word ever! Our Mama grew up in New York City and she attended many theatre productions. She was very cultured. Katherina was our first look at a woman who had a career in the arts. She held a significant memory for us and we had never met her. She carried an overpowering boldness in her elegant social pattern. We must always remember little people watch us. We make our mark on them in our lives and we do not have a choice about that. We just have to be aware that we do. Let us love life, let it show in the way we carrying our person. We develop others too as we develop ourselves. We all play huge roles in cultivating our environment.
Katherina's six strands are mirrored in elegant boldness.  It is stunning in the luminescence sequence of glass on glass. Faux glass mother of pearl, multi faceted glass in smoke and blush, dotted with baby glass pearls and pearlescent. The blending gives the necklace a opulent look. The brass silver cap components around the assorted glass beads enhance the look and the brass silver chain lets the wearer adjust the length.

"Ophelia"

"Get thee to the nunnery!" Hamlet tells Ophelia. However this story and this necklace was not designed with Shakespeare's Hamlet and Ophelia in mind. This story line is about a woman from Angela and my past. Miss Ophelia R Banks. She was a movie star if we ever saw one. When Angela and I were young impressionable girls Miss Ophelia walked in the door of our house. My Mama had just given birth to a brand new baby boy, Paul.
Miss Ophelia walked in carrying the biggest present for the new baby, wrapped in paper that was a deep robins egg blue. Circling the box was a wide satin ribbon and on the end of each ribbon dangled a little origami blue bird. The most beautiful present we've ever seen. Miss Ophelia herself was a stunning woman, her coppery red hair twirled up in a fashionable French Twist and a simple three strand pearl choker around her neck. We wanted to be Miss Ophelia. Living in Miami Florida at the time everyone wore a more casual attire. However she was Hollywood glamour, high heels and red fire lipstick. She smelled like luxury if luxury had a smell. Miss Ophelia visited our home a totaled of eight times and there are eight Yellow Turquoise stones that represent those sacred visits. The Yellow Turquoise is almost the color of deep robin egg blue wrapping paper. Four aqua glass nuggets are added for the four times she played with us in our wonderful Playhouse in the back yard. Our Daddy had built the most gorgeous playhouse complete with a front porch. When we were little girls we had tea in the living room of our playhouse, and we sat in miniature wicker chairs and a had little wooden table. Ms Ophelia poured the tea one day and all of a sudden she took all the pins out of her French twist and shook out her copper hair. Then she took off her pearl choker and placed it on her head like a crown. She sat there looking like a Princess. Angela and I were delighted a true Princess among us. Our Beautiful Magical Princess Ophelia. Years later we found out that Ophelia was only 24 years old and married to a young Lieutenant and they wanted a baby. They never had a baby however she is still alive and as glamorous as the day we all first met. The necklace displays the sophisticated qualities of Hollywood glamour with graduated milk white glass pearls topped with antique silver end caps. Sparkling faceted pale blue glass beads and intermingled silver brass components.

Reflecting the deep history of New Orleans Louisiana, Nola blends the refined established traditions and cultural enchantments in her strung beading. Nola begins the story line in the time of the Great Depression. Three large glass amber focal beads represent the highly sought after Depression Glass that fashioned our dining tables. So let me begin the memories, our Mothers favorite, Oysters Rockefeller that originated from our Mama's beloved restaurant Antione's in the French Quarter. It was served on the Sunday dinner table in the months that end in the letter R. The Four shelled Magnolia Flowers strung in the necklace symbolize the four months for eating raw oysters. September, October, November and December. They laid in a bed of glittering crushed ice and the gorgeous amber Depression Glass platter glowed beautifully with the candlelight.
Pine cones, and Pearls are intertwined in Nola's formation as it is also part of our childhood history in the Southern living way. The fine art of scavenging for perfectly formed pine cones to make the welcoming pine cone wreaths that hung on every Southern door. Six coppery pine cone beads represent our six siblings who would bring their pine cone offerings to Mama to be assembled in the natural rustic loveliness of our family's door wreath.
The scattering of Pearls mark right of passage acknowledging Grace and womanhood in our Southern upbringing.
The Six Ivory Skulls are the most dramatic memories of our childhood. The famous New Orleans Jazz funerals. Finalizing our mortality on Earth and beginning our immortality in Heaven. " When the Saints go Marching In " Nola, designed and strung in the rich history of New Orleans Louisiana.
